Alex Winstanley has been a sports volunteer with Wigan Sports Development as well as numerous other organisations for 3 years now. His commitment to volunteering has not gona un-noticed and he has been rewarded with the prestigious Street Games Local Hero award.
Rob Burrows from Wigan Sports Development said ‘Alex has always been a very valuable member of our workforce and is always the first to volunteer whenever we are looking for voluntary staff to assist us with the running of a coaching programme or larger event. When volunteering Alex is just as valuable as a member of our paid coaching team in the way he is able to organise the young people and manage their behaviour. Alex has strong communication skills and is able to communicate effectively with fellow volunteers, coaches and participants of a range of ages, abilities and backgrounds. Alex has been able to gain a wide range of experience with us through his willingness to give up his own time. To date Alex has assisted with our community programme which caters for 8-18 years olds, our disability programme, our holiday programme and also our adult programme’.
Alex has also been nominated and made the final shortlist for the National Street Games Young Volunteer of the Year award. The ceremoney takes place at Salford City Reds stadium on 7th June.
