PERFECT CONDITIONS FOR RUGBY!

Posted on : February 23, 2010

Perfect conditions for rugby!

While almost all of the North West Counties’ rugby league programme ground to a halt on Sunday, one group of players in Wigan enjoyed perfect conditions for rugby.

The Powerleague Soccerdome was the venue for the first of six weekly sessions of Touch Rugby League. Played 5-a-side on the indoor 3g pitches, this fast and fun derivative of the sport brought out the skills and the smiles.

The sessions are being organised by the Rugby Football League, Wigan Leisure & Culture Trust’s ‘Your Choice’ programme and Wigan and Leigh Service Area, aiming at increasing adult participation in physical activity.

The RFL’s League For All Officer Phil Roberts said,” There have been 30 people down for the first session today, so that’s a great start. We’ve had a good range of ages and a mix of complete beginners and experienced players. The key thing is that everybody enjoyed themselves and was looking forward to next week.”

Touch Rugby League in Wigan continues at the Powerleague Soccerdome next Sunday, 2-3pm, just £1 per player and is complemented by further sessions on the astroturf pitch at Bedford High School , Leigh on Mondays, 6:30-7:30pm. Players should be aged 16+.
