Sports Makers Programme
A t the end of February Wigan Sports Development will be launching the national Sports Makers programme throughout Wigan & Leigh. This is your chance to make more sport happen in your local community.
What Are Sports Makers?
Sports Makers are simply people who make sport happen in their local communities. Sports Makers activities could be something as simple as organising a game of five a side football with a group of friends or organising a community fun run.
How to become a Sports Maker
It is easy to become a Sports Maker and the programme is open to anyone over the age of 16. It is simply a case of creating a profile on the Sports Makers website and then logging a minimum of 10 hours volunteering. Each Sports Maker must also attend an inspirational induction workshop the dates and locations of which are below.
For further information visit the Sports Makers website at http://www.sportmakers.co.uk/
Induction Workshops
Robin Park Arena – Tuesday 28th Feb, 7pm – 9pm.
Leigh Harriers Athletics Club – Wednesday 7th March, 7pm – 9pm.
Places can be booked through the Sports Makers website as above. If you have any issues contact us on 01942 488495.
Further benefits to getting involved……….
Coach Funding
We will have 50% funding for 50 registered Sports Makers aged 16-24 to attend an NGB level 1 or 2 qualification. This will be the only funding available to support coaches throughout the borough in 2012 so it is a massive incentive for coaches/volunteers to register as Sports Makers.
Event Funding
We will also have 20 instalments of £400 available to Sports Makers (again aged 16-24) looking to organise events within their local communities. There is a bit of flexibility here i.e. the Sports Maker may be applying on behalf of their club who will be running the event. As long as the Sports Maker is someway involved in the organisation of the event then there is no problem. Therefore, this is a good way for clubs to bring in additional funds for their club.
Please be aware that neither of the funding streams will be available until both the induction workshops have taken place as above. However, application forms will be available on request or via this page from January for anyone wishing to apply early.
