Yoshin Ryu Traditional Martial Arts Club The Yoshin Ryu Judo Club was taken over in 1967 by judo instructor Eric Hayes (7thDan). Eric trained under Sensei’s Len Pitchford, Roy Gaskell and Akinori Hosaka and recently trained in Japan at the Kodakan. The club gained a reputation for being one of the best Dojo’s in the North West, producing students of the highest quality. The club has had many successes over the years including Eric’s son, Mark Hayes (3rd Dan), becoming a Manchester Youth Games Gold Medalist, as well as winning numerous other competition and tournament medals. The club was later disbanded for 10 years due to personal reasons, but after a little persuasion from a few old and new enthusiastic members, the dojo doors are open again. After becoming re-established the club is being reinvented as a Traditional Martial Arts School, including Ju Jitsu and other martial arts as well as the Judo. The club has a very strong Traditional ethic and enforces this on and off the mat. The classes are instructed by Eric Hayes and Mark Hayes, who are both experienced, fully qualified and licensed AMA instructors. Judoka’s of any grade from other clubs are more than welcome to come along for a training session, and we always like beginners to join us and take up the sport. We also arrange friendly inter-club competitions/randori sessions to test the progress of our members and members of other clubs! Our club membership is run through the Amateur Martial Association for which a senior Membership will cost £20.00 per annum. The cover is some of the best in the country, which is why we chose the AMA.
