Andy Smith, Wigan Sports Development’s Apprentice Sports Coach, had the fully deserved honour of carrying the Olympic torch through his native Abram during the Wigan leg of the National Torch relay.
Prior to gaining his apprenticeship with Wigan Sports Development Andy carried out hundreds of hours of voluntary work within his local community of Abram, organising positive sporting activities for local young people. It was in recognition of this voluntary work that Andy was nominated to be an Olympic torch bearer.
